In 2011 the EU started discussions on its future budget and a review of major policies for the period 2014-2020. The Commission already put forward proposals that are highly relevant for the Innovation Union including the Multiannual Financial Framework, future Cohesion Policy, Horizon 2020 and more. Very important decisions are under preparation and will be taken in the coming 12-18 months mainly by the European Parliament and theCouncil.

During 2011, the K4I Forum managed to implement a very ambitious programme with eight dinner debates, nine working breakfast meetings with the Forum’s Governing Board and a two part summit conference in Warsaw and Brussels which all together produced a substantial outcome. This outcome and the know-how and expertise of K4I members form an ideal basis to provide input to the discussion - in particular in the European Parliament - on future framework conditions for innovation and allocation of budgets for many years to come.

To this end, K4I agreed to prepare and organise a "Kick-off" event to present and discuss highly important innovation focus areas that will give guidance and ideas for the K4I Forum 2012 Action Plan and Programme. This event will be organised in two parts. A stakeholder meeting in the later afternoon (17h00 -18h30) followed by a dinner with Members of the European Parliament to discuss and have a first input from the MEPs on the 2012 programme.

The objective of the meeting is to identify series of highly relevant innovation topics and that reflects the work of the Members of the European Parliament engaged in K4I forum activities.
